The Drakensberg: long roads. rain. little laughs. fog. sleepy eyes. pot holes. fresh green grass. 4 x 4. gravel road. bumpy ride. timber farm. mud tracks. farm house. log fire. hot shower. warm bed. spiders. shining sun. swimming in the river. landscape. beauty. thoughts of God. worship. family. laughter. eating together. hide-n-seek. shining stars. sleepy eyes. new day. travelling home. memories.
onto durban. i really wanted to remove the thousands of wreckless memories i had in this place and create new beautiful ones and that is exactly what happened. i saw so many old faces - the kind that always seem familiar no matter how many wrinkles develop. and when you see each other you remember how many times you laughed together and the amazing memories shared. i realised how much i have changed and how little i have changed. ive met all kinds of people from all over but it never quite compares to the people you grew up with.
i met this cool guy one day, his name was eric and he asked me for money. i asked him why he was begging for money and we started talking. i told him a bit about my past and how i had been in similar situations, the more i opened up the more he did too. he told me that he tried to kill his mother and was taken to town hill. i told him a bit of my story and where i had come from and that i had met God without really wanting to and all the huge things i got through because of him. i asked him if i could pray for him and he gave me his hand and i prayed with him, it was so beautiful. i realise everyday that is only by grace that keeps us . amazing grace.
the wedding. the venue was incredible. it was at shalwyn, tala valley and jade being the creative mastermind that she is made it look amazing. she was the best bride to be a bridesmaid for, so all my previous fears (see my blog on 'the reticent bridesmaid' were all for naught). that girl is a machine. the wedding was so joyful and peaceful. so many amazing people there... i think some of the best people i know were all there in the same room, people that make my belly ache with laughter. it was a sweet memory that will always last. i usually cry my eyes out at weddings but i only got emo when they left but then i just did the macarena and everything was ok again. amazing to see two people so close to me so in love and happy. the highlight was tammy and paul doing a dance off, they were cut from the same cloth, i do hope there is video footage of that.
in short south africa was amazing too many good times to recount them all. i am super keen to backpack around south africa...it makes sense.
i dont think i was ready to leave, it seemed sudden and unjust to be transplanted into cold reality but i did get to stop in doha, qatar on my way back to see the wallens which was too fun and kinda trippy.
